Launches
Two young men, on holiday from the Midlands, had launched their 3 metre kayak from Torcross beach and soon found that they were being carried out to sea by the moderate offshore wind. The alarm was raised and the Coastguard asked the Dart RNLI inshore lifeboat to attend. When the lifeboat arrived on scene they discovered that the kayakers had managed, with some difficulty, to get back to shore. There the pair were met by the RNLI Dart Press Officers and were happy for their story to be told for others to learn from. As the lifeboat returned to the mouth of the Dart they were hailed by a yacht with engine failure. The lifeboat towed the yacht, with two adults on board, to their mooring in the harbour.
