A 12 year old swimmer was seen by the RNLI lifeguards to be signalling for help. He had entered the water awkwardly from the swimming pontoon anchored off Blackpool Sands and had hurt his back. He managed to climb back onto the pontoon and to call for help. An RNLI lifeguard went out to assess him and asked the Coastguard to task the RNLI inshore lifeboat to bring him ashore.
The Air Ambulance was also tasked by the Coastguard and landed in the field adjacent to the beach. The first aid trained lifeboat crew placed him in their roll up stretcher to take him to the beach where he was assessed by the Air Ambulance paramedic along with the crew of a SW ambulance.
