A kitesurfer had launched, with a buddy, from close to the monument on Slapton Sands. He was reaching out from the beach when the wind died. He was then unable to re-launch at sea and the tide was carrying him in the direction of Start Point. His buddy came ashore and informed the Coastguard who then requested the Dart inshore lifeboat to launch. The lifeboat was stood down as they passed the Dancing Beggars off Coombe Point as the casualty had de-rigged and furled his kite and managed to swim ashore.
