Rescue of small cabin cruiser

Launch No: 280
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Thursday, 2 March 2017
Location: The entrance to Old Mill Creek. Dartmouth Harbour.

A boat owner boarded his 5.5 metre Shetland cabin cruiser with the intention of motoring to the Dart Marina for a lift-out. He bailed the boat out but when he set off both engines on board failed and he managed to propel himself, with a single oar, back to the pontoon off the entrance to Old Mill Creek that he had left. He had no means of getting ashore and contacted the Coastguard. The inshore lifeboat took him in an alongside tow to the Dart Marina.
