Royal Navy find abandoned boat 4 miles out

Launch No: 180
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Monday, 15 July 2013
Location: 2 miles South East of Dartmouth. Start Bay

HMS Trumpeter, P294, found an abandoned 14ft motor cruiser 4 miles S.E. of the Dart estuary. The Coastguard asked the inshore lifeboat crew to rendevous with her and to tow the boat back to Dartmouth. Further enquiries suggested that the boat may have gone adrift or been set adrift from its moorings in Dartmouth Harbour. The boat was towed to the Dartmouth Yacht Club pontoon and re-united with its owner. (Additional photos can be seen in the Photo Gallery / Launches on this site.) Lifeboat crew. Kevin Murphy, helmsman. Lee Darch and Ewen Menzies, crew. Shore crew. Jim Brent, tractor driver. Pete Callis, crew.
