Sea safety advice

Launch No: 137
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Sunday, 20 November 2011
Location: Dartmouth Harbour

The Dart inshore lifeboat was contacted by H M Coastguard Brixham whilst the crew were on their weekly Sunday morning exercise. A RIB with two adults, a child under ten and a babe in arms, were seen to be heading out of the harbour into choppy seas and the caller was concerned that only the child appeared to be wearing a lifejacket. The lifeboat was exercising eight minutes to the East when they received the call and by the time they reached them the occupants of the RIB had decided to turn back to harbour. They discussed the situation with the crew and accepted the advice that was given; that all should be wearing lifejackets.
