Search after car drives off quay at Kingswear.

Launch No: 07
Wednesday, 14 May 2008
Location: Kingswear crabbing quay and River Dart.

The Coastguard requested a launch to search for any survivors from a car seen to drive off the crabbing quay at Kingswear. No survivors were found on the initial search and the lifeboat was deployed to bring a local diver from Dartmouth. The river was searched again as there were reports that a person had been seen to jump from the vehicle before it hit the water. The further search was again negative and the lifeboat was requested to stay at the scene to provide safety for the Police divers as they examined the car some three to four metres below the surface and retrieved a body. After four hours the three man crew was changed and the new crew was tasked to search as far downstream as Warfleet. Yachtsmen with a close view of the incident reported that they had seen no one jump from the vehicle and at 22:45 the Coastguard were satisfied and all were stood down.
