Swimmer reported to be crossing the Dart

Location: Dartmouth Harbour

A telephone call that a man was trying to swim across the River Dart from Kingswear to Dartmouth was received from the Lower Ferry. The weekly crew meeting was taking place in the boathouse. The LOM authorised a launch to provide assistance and the Coastguard was informed. When the lifeboat reached the swimmer he was within 20 metres of the Dartmouth shore and declined asistance. He and his friends also declined to talk to the mobile Coastguard team member who had arived on scene.
