To investigate missing navigation buoy

Launch No: 191
Sunday, 6 October 2013
Location: River Dart estuary

The Coastguard had received a report that the Checkstone buoy at the entrance to the River Dart was missing. They were unable to contact the Harbour Authority and wanted the matter checked before they issued a security warning to shipping. The crew were assembled and checked the location. The buoy was still just visible, but about 2 feet below the surface. It was still anchored to the seabed but the tide had dragged it under the surface. The Checkstone is a very large steel port hand buoy and its sunken position had made it a hazard to shipping. Lifeboat crew. Buster Hart, helmsman. Tony Rendle crew. Launch crew. Dai Richards, tractor driver. Yorkie Lomas crew.
