The coastguard asked the RNLI inshore lifeboat team to investigate a report of a 14ft wooden motor boat that had broken down one mile south of Totnes with four adults on board. The lifeboat managed to get within six feet of the boat that was stuck fast on the mud and one of the crew was able to reach the boat and assess the situation. Evacuation of the casualties would only be possible by mud mats which were brought by the Fire service from Teignmouth. The Fire Service from Camel Head also brought their boat and launched at Totnes. The Coastguard mud rescue team also attended. When the mats had been inflated at Sharpham Quay they were towed to the scene by the Fire boat and the ILB. The casualties were then taken in the lifeboat to Sharpham Quay where they were medically assessed by the Ambulance Service and found not to require further treatment.
Lifeboat crew. Chris Tracey, helmsman. Andrew Pomeroy and Dean Nettleton crew.
