A motor yacht with one on board lost all power one mile off the Dart estuary and called the Coastguard for assistance. The Dart D class inshore lifeboat was launched and on reaching the scene discovered that the vessel was 13.6 tonne and 10.6 metres long. The D class put a crewman on board and asked the Coastguard to page the Torbay Severn class lifeboat. The yacht had anchored with 140m of chain and had no power to lift it. The Torbay lifeboat brought the yacht into the harbour towing the anchor and once out of the swell two of the crew joined Chris Rampling on the yacht and raised the anchor chain. The yacht was then towed to her deep water mooring.
Lifeboat crew. Rich Eggleton, helmsman. Yorkie Lomas and Chris Rampling, crew.
Shore crew. Mark Strudwick, tractor driver. Kevin Murphy, Will Davis, Paul Manley and Stuart Millard.
