August 2013 monthly update

Launch requests are definitely up with six in June and five so far in July.
Since the last update we launched to save the charter boat Alucia which was holed after striking a rock at Coombe Point. She was towed into Warfleet Creek to be beached before she sank. A 4am launch on Sunday 14th was followed the next day by a request to rendezvous with HMS Trumpeter who had found an empty small motor boat four miles out to sea.
Yesterday a couple of young hikers had reached Forest Cove, west of Blackpool Sands, only to be cut off by the incoming tide. There are photos and videos of the three main launches on this website under the Launches tab.
This Saturday, the 27th, is the date of the Dartmouth RNLI Garden Safari. Tickets at £5 per person can be obtained in advance from the TIC or from any of the venues on the day. There will be one allotment and six gardens to visit from 11am to 5pm. Refreshments and directions will be available along the way. It does not matter where you begin or how many you visit.
The allotment of Adrian Booker is in the Allotment Garden, Milton Lane, Dartmouth TQ6 0LA.
Mrs Christabel Cox is opening her garden at 91A Townstal Road, Dartmouth, TQ6 9LR. Mr & Mrs Ray Langman are at 53, Churchfields, Dartmouth, TQ6 9HJ. Tim & Christine Freeman have a garden opposite 9 and 10 Fairview Road, Dartmouth TQ6 9EN. Mr Price and Mr Greenfield are at Geranium Cottage, Longfield, 3 Fairview Road, Dartmouth TQ6 9EN. The final fundraising date for your diary is the annual RNLI Fete in the Royal Avenue gardens on Thursday 15 August. There will be stalls to browse, music to listen to, RNLI souvenirs to purchase including the new Dart RNLI jigsaws as well as tea, coffee and cakes. If you can supply items such as plants or cakes or help in any way please contact Harry Escott on 01803 834296

The lifeboat station will be open over Regatta. Do come and meet the team. The lifeboat with its updated Chart Plotter and AIS will be on display, as well as the Ocean Rowing Boat that Rachel Cole and Monty Halls plan to use to row to the Eddystone Lighthouse and back on the anniversary of the Grace Darling rescue 175 years ago.
