RNLI Visitor Centre Dartmouth
Our visitor centre has become a “must see” attraction in Dartmouth. The centre offers fun and learning for all the family. It’s the perfect place to find out about our town’s incredible lifesaving history, as well as learning about the RNLI from our beginning in 1824 to our modern-day lifeboat service.

Learn what it takes to become a lifesaver. Dress up as lifeboat crew in gear to fit ALL ages and sit in a D class inshore lifeboat while watching clips from real rescues on a large screen TV.

Discover the fascinating history of RNLI lifesaving and see how the RNLI have evolved to not only be a lifeboat service but also an essential part of beach safety and flood rescues.

There are interactive displays, audio stories from survivors and short films to watch. Everything is “hands on” so visitors of all ages can enjoy themselves. We also allow dogs as long as they are well behaved and not wet or muddy.
Our shop has a great selection of gifts, souvenirs and pocket money toys. Our ranges are full of variety and now include the latest 1824 range.
When RNLI lifejackets reach their end of service they are being recycled, by being redesigned into special products. RNLI lifejackets are only decommissioned every 10 years or so, therefore these items are in limited supply. Hard-wearing and water-resistant, each product varies in colour, detail and finish, depending on the unique history of the lifejacket it was made from. All items are skillfully crafted by hand in the UK. Every product we create from recycled lifejackets represents an authentic piece of the RNLI’s lifesaving history, and every purchase helps save lives at sea.
