Launches
Dart B class Lifeboat and Dart D class ILB were tasked at 1.23am to reports of a person in the water in the area around the Town Pontoon, Dartmouth. Both boats immediately launched and searched the river in that area. The casualty was found in the water beside the new temporary pontoons, near the double Steps, and a member of the public was holding onto him.
The casualty had fallen into the water an hour before as he was boarding his boat to leave the Dartmouth shore. He had a life jacket on which had inflated but as both lifeboats arrived on scene only his head was visible and he was seen to be slipping under the pontoon. Four crew from the two lifeboats jumped ashore and immediately got hold of the casualty and recovered him to the pontoon. The casualty was then returned in the D class lifeboat to the lifeboat station to a waiting ambulance for checks. The crew also checked the member of the public who raised the alarm. He was found to be fit and well. In the opinion of the Coastguard control at Falmouth and the lifeboat crew this was considered to be a life saved.
