Crabber immobilised twenty feet from rocks

Launch No: 171
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Saturday, 25 May 2013
Location: Coleton Fishacre. Start Bay

A 19 ft. crabber was trapped by their ground rope round the propeller as they were hauling in pots, close to the rocks off Coleton Fishacre. Another larger crabber was standing by but could not get close enough to assist. The Dart inshore lifeboat attached a tow and then pulled them back to relieve the tension on the rope for it to be cut. The crabber with the fouled prop and two fishermen on board was towed to Kingswear Quay where divers were called to free the rope. Lifeboat crew. Helmsman, Kevin Murphy. Crew Buster Hart and Tony Rendle. Launch crew. Tractor driver Pete Callis. Crew Yorkie Lomas.
