Fishing boat hit Anchor Stone and sea search

Launch No: 157
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Saturday, 15 September 2012
Location: Anchor Stone River Dart

A 16ft. open boat with two men on board was returning from a fishing trip at the Skerries to their berth at Totnes when they hit the Anchor Stone on the River Dart. Neither were injured but the boat's steering was disabled. The lifeboat helm decided to tow them back to Dartmouth. Whilst this operation was finishing they were redirected by the Coastguard to a further incident. A fisherman had reported a large object in the water, possibly an upturned boat, in the area of the Western Blackstone. The area was thoroughly searched including the use of parachute flares, and nothing was found. Lifeboat crew; Kevin Murphy, Helmsman. Tony Rendle and Mark Conroy, crewmen. Launch crew; Jim Brent. Tractor Driver.
