L346 Dart lifeboat searching close to Froward Point

An observer in the National Coastwatch Institution look out point at Froward point believed that he could see a body in the water, close to the rocks below them. The RNLI Dart D class inshore lifeboat had just completed their search in the Blackpool Sands area (L345) and was diverted by the Coastguard to Froward Point. The lifeboat was conned onto the object in the water by the NCI observer over the radio. What was believed to be a yellow rucksack turned out to be a yellow crab pot buoy and the lifeboat was stood down from both tasks. The NCI team and the lifeboat carry out training exercises for just such an eventuality and it was good to see how well the directions worked.
