Report of boat on fire in the harbour

Launch No: 321
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Wednesday, 1 November 2017
Location: Dartmouth Harbour

Smoke was seen to be coming from a 36 foot classic yacht moored downstream of the Higher ferry and reported to the Coastguard who tasked the volunteers from the Dartmouth and Brixham Fire Stations.

The RNLI inshore lifeboat team was notified by the Fire crew and self launched. When the emergency teams arrived on scene there was no smoke to be seen and the Fire Chief on a Dartmouth Harbour RIB eventually identified the source of the smoke. The crew had lit a smoke burner for the first time this season which briefly gave rise to the cloud of dense smoke. No action was required.
