An RS dinghy with two adults on board capsized close to the Higher Ferry. Their safety boat was in attendance and alerted the Coastguard when the two crew were unable to right the dinghy with all its sails still up and being pressed against the deep water pontoon by the tide. The Coastguard tasked both Dart lifeboats as people were in the water. The RNLI Dart B class lifeboat was exercising with the RNLI Dart D class lifeboat at the mouth of the river and was able to reach the sailors within three minutes of being tasked by the Coastguard. The D class crew were able to right the dinghy after one of the sailors was able to release the spinnaker halyard and lower the sail whilst the crew of the B class lifeboat assisted from the pontoon. The D class took the boat and its crew to the Higher Ferry landing slip. One of the crew changed out of their wet sailing gear in the lifeboat station.
