Search for possible windsurfer in trouble

Launch No: 115
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Tuesday, 14 June 2011
Location: 1 mile off Slapton Sands, Start Bay

An informant had seen an object in the water which he thought was possibly a windsurfer. The Inshore lifeboat was directed to the object by the onshore Coastguard team together with the informant. It became apparent that the object was a coastal weather observation buoy which was securely tethered in its charted position. The three minute launch time was achieved because some of the crew were playing cricket outside the lifeboat station at the time. Lifeboat crew. Helmsman Chris Tracey. Crew Haydn Glanvil and Tony Chapman. Shore crew. Jim Brent, Jerry Gilby and Bob Thomas.
