A yachtsman sailing single handed from Brixham to the Dart had failed to return by 1am and his family raised the alarm with the Coastguard. The Coastguard in Falmouth tasked the two Dart lifeboats, the D class inflatable and the Atlantic 75, to search the river as far as Galmpton. They also tasked the Berry head Coastguard team. The D class crew were able to get closer to Galmpton Creek than the Atlantic 75 due to their shallower draft. The Coastguard team found the vessel aground at Dolphin Quay, Galmpton, and safely awaiting the next high tide. He was happy to remain on board. The crew list below relates to D 702 inshore lifeboat.
