Assistance given to yacht with no sails or power.

Launch No: 35
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Monday, 10 August 2009
Location: 1 mile South of Froward Point. Start Bay.

A 28ft sailing yacht had lost power and had no sails on board. They anchored and requested assistance. When the ILB arrived 2 crewmen had been taken off by the vessel Carlina and were being taken to the Town Pontoon in Dartmouth leaving the Skipper on board. The yacht had been taken in tow by Fairmile (previously the Western Lady) but it had not been possible to raise the anchor. Once the tow was within the harbour limits where the sea state was calmer the tow was taken over by a DHNA patrol rib. A crewman from the ILB was put on board and was able to cut the anchor chain and assist the skipper. The ILB liased with the ferries and cleared a berth for the yacht.
