Rowing eight sinks at Duncannon Reach

Launch No: 27
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Monday, 13 April 2009
Location: Duncannon reach. River Dart.

A rowing eight from the Dart Rowing Club, Totnes, hit an unknown object in Duncannon Reach, holing the boat in several places and sinking it. Two of the crew swam ashore to raise the alarm whilst the other six crew and the cox stayed with the boat. The Coastguard requested the Dart ILB to launch and also notified the DHNA who attended with two launches. The Cox was rescued by a DHNA launch and the crew were transfered by the ILB to the launches, four at a time, for onward transfer to their club at Totnes. They were all uninjured although very cold. The ILB then towed the rowing skiff, full of water, back to Totnes.
