24 foot vessel aground and listing in River Dart

Launch No: 320
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Monday, 30 October 2017
Location: Off Mill Point, Stoke Gabriel.

A single handed sailor was motoring his yacht from Brixham to Totnes when he went aground off Mill Point at Stoke Gabriel on the Dart. He managed to contact the Coastguard to report that he was listing and in danger of taking on water as there was over an hour until low tide.

The lifeboat crew took him ashore into the care of the Dartmouth Coastguard team at Blackness Marine who were providing a communications link between Falmouth Coastguard and the inshore lifeboat. The lifeboat crew then returned to the boat, disconnected the electrics and laid out an anchor to secure the craft when the tide rose.
