The RNLI Dart inshore lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard to evacuate a casualty from Castle Cove. A 57 year old Dartmouth resident had fallen some 15 feet onto the rocks and injured his lower back. The S W Ambulance service had worked with the Dartmouth Coastguard Search and Rescue volunteers to place him on a stretcher but it was decided that the easiest evacuation would be by boat. The lifeboat crew included a paramedic and 3 First Aid volunteers. The casualty was moved onto the lifeboat's basket stretcher, shielded from the wind with an ambulance pouch and transferred to a waiting ambulance at the Higher Ferry slip.
