False alarm with good intent

Launch No: 146
Craft: Constance Green. D-730
Thursday, 24 May 2012
Location: Off newfoundland Cove. Dart Estuary

The National Coastwatch observers at Froward Point notified the Coastguard that they had observed a Laser dinghy that had capsized off Newfoundland Cove and that there was a person in the water. The inshore lifeboat reached the scene twelve minutes after the initial pager alert and found that South Devon Technical College were carrying out capsize drill and had a RIB in attendance. Unfortunately they had not informed the Coastguard of their intentions.
